Reiki, Chakras and The Subtle Energy Field

By Davina

Chakra is an unusual word, it hails from an ancient language – Sanskrit. Consider it similar to how we think of Latin today.

Translated, the word means wheel or a spinning disc. The reason being, this was exactly how the people of that time ‘saw’ the energy.  We see the same thing in nature – as two energy systems meet, they flow and combine into a cyclical, turning motion. Imagine two cloud systems as they meet, they form a cyclone, or two rivers meeting swirl into a whirlpool. This even happens when you add milk or cream to your coffee! Well so it is with your chakra energy too.

We usually talk of the main seven chakras but there are many more. To keep things simple though, we will concentrate on the basic seven chakras. These seven run up the length of the spine and from there they blossom out into the various layers of the auric field.

The seven chakras starting from the base of the spine up to the top of the head are called:

•             Base or Root Chakra

•             Sacral Chakra

•             Solar Plexus Chakra

•             Heart Chakra

•             Throat Chakra

•             Third Eye Chakra

•             Crown Chakra

The chakras each take in energy and they also let it out as well – similar to how we inhale and exhale when we breathe.

often, I also see them as funnels. Imagine taking a spinning disc and pulling it up and out (just as a pot on the potter’s wheel) so that it becomes a 3D spiralling funnel. This funnel is pure energy, fused with your own personal essence. This includes your hopes, your fears, your beliefs, even your thoughts and habits! This is how your chakra energy connects to your health and well being – not just on a physical level but on mental, emotional and spiritual levels too.

Each of the seven chakras is connected via a wonderful network of miniature routes – your intricate lifelines, literally your life force. These meridians of energy cover the body, inside and out. The result is a magnificent matrix or unique tapestry, which is totally unique to you.

With all this energy, moving in and out, it naturally follows that the chakras and the aura are very closely related. As the energy centres expel outwards, they spill into the aura. Equally, the aura affects the chakras as it is from there, they draw their energy in.

As I use the term energy, it’s not just your own life force. The chakras act as filters, in a sponge like manner, to the other energies around us. Such energies might be those more obvious ones from our appliances and implements, such as computers and mobiles. However many more are not so obvious such as the energy of thoughts, feelings, even words – regardless of whether they are our own or those of other people.

Hence, the environment you find yourself in, is vitally important. No doubt you can relate to feeling differently when you are outside in a park or natural environment, to when you are in a city or built up area, surrounded by chaos and noise. Although you may not have considered it this way before, there is a definite energy linked to our thoughts, actions and words. Someone shouting abuse displays and gives off a very different energy to someone talking peacefully, singing a song or saying a prayer. It’s obvious when you think about it, but also incredibly easy to overlook.

Just because we can’t readily see the energy with our own eyes, it doesn’t mean we don’t feel it. We may not be consciously aware of it but it does have a resonance and a consequence to us. Think about how you feel when you hear different types of music, some songs make you want to dance, some to sing out loud and some to cry. Your ears may hear the music but how you feel about it is interpreted elsewhere- through your intricate network of energy.

When we work with Reiki as a form of healing, for ourselves or for others, we are channelling high vibration universal energy down into our systems, to bring balance or a much needed energy boost. Often we will direct it to a particular area or chakra, depending on what is right and relevant.

It is not uncommon for some chakras to be overactive and we may need to siphon the energy away, possibly to a weaker chakra in the system, thereby bringing balance overall.

Active Aura Cleansing Meditation

By Davina

This is a very simple, quick but effective Aura Cleansing & Balancing Meditation/Visualization.

I call it active because there is movement involved! This feels absolutely wonderful if you can do this outside, but it works equally well indoors.  It is still very effective if you simply visualize yourself doing it, working through the colors one by one.

I have added an additional color to act as a protective outer layer to the aura. This is very good to do if you know you need the extra protection – especially if you find yourselves in stressful or trying situations. This is when it helps to be able to visualize the process too.

The more you practice this, the better the effect and the quicker you will be able to put up your own protection at any time almost instantly.

Chakra Colors

By Davina

Each of the seven main Chakra Centers has their specific Chakra Color.  As you know these are the colors of the rainbow and each has its’ own meanings and significance.

Red Chakra : Root Chakra

Red is a dynamic color and signifies passion, instinct and desire.  It is closely linked to our blood and is often associated with anger or something making our ‘blood boil’!

As red is the color of the Root Chakra you can see how this ties in with the sexual center – not just the physical organs themselves but also how you feel about your sexuality and sexual health.  This is our instinctive nature and the root is all about our physical health and stamina – our vitality – again this coincides perfectly with the color red and the attributes we give it.

Orange Chakra: Sacral Chakra

Orange is the color of the Sacral Chakra and its’ tone is mellowed from the stark vitality of red – it is more fluid in its nature. It symbolizes your emotions, their need to flow and be expressed. Also it is associated with creative ability and change, this lends itself not just to the physical act of creation or fertility but even to the amount of creative expression in our daily lives. This center is also about our magnetism – our ability to attract the things we want and like into our lives and also those things we tend to push away.

Yellow Chakra: Solar Plexus Chakra

Yellow links with our personal power center and can display how active( or not!) this center is. It is connected to our digestive system, assimilating the power and juice we need to survive from the foods we take in. This chakra can often be implicated in people who consistently multi task or take may projects on at any one time. It can signify a bright intellect, a bright spark with the energy to ignite others into action.

Green Chakra: Heart Chakra

Green denotes a caring and compassionate nature. It is linked to the natural cycles and rhythms of life. It is the natural color of healing and is organic in its associations to the great outdoors and Mother Nature herself. Usually people displaying green in the aura will ‘talk from the heart’ and can be quite expressive with their hand gestures whilst explaining and talking about the topics they enjoy.

Blue Chakra:Throat Chakra

Blue is the color of communication and expression. In spiritual circles it is often described as being related to being able to align with our ‘spiritual truth’ – understanding who we are and our purpose here. In its positive shades it is a color of honesty and integrity. It can reveal itself to be in some quite bizarre shapes at times – depending on whether the person is freely able to voice their opinions or wants and needs.

Indigo Chakra:Third Eye Chakra

Indigo or dark purple is the color of the third eye and purple shades are often associated with magical or mystical theories and realms. This is of course about your intuition, your psychic abilities as well as the deeper recesses of your mind and imagination. It is the link with the imagination that is so powerful. Not the idle imagination of fanciful dreams but the creative imagination to harness the power of your thoughts and subconscious mind to steer your life in the direction you truly want it to go in.

Violet Chakra:Crown Chakra

Once more this is a mystical color and is seen as a very spiritual color. This color conveys our ability to know our true purpose and to balance the spiritual self  we know with the physical self we can see and touch. There is a certain wisdom and quiet knowing, acceptance that comes with this color in its’ positive aspect.  In a not so positive aspect it could indicate someone has dissociated from the physical reality of everyday life.

This was just a brief insight into some of the meanings and associations of the Chakra Colors. It is an ever expanding topic and color can be effectively used in healing and balancing your Chakra energy and the Aura as a whole.
